On 5th December 2025, the Ho Sports Stadium became the heartbeat of Ghana’s agricultural sector as the nation gathered to celebrate the 41st National Farmers’ Day. More than a ceremonial event, the occasion stood as a powerful tribute to the resilience, innovation, and unwavering dedication of farmers whose labour sustains the country.

The celebration served as a timely reminder that agriculture remains central to Ghana’s economic stability and food security. Addressing the nation, H.E. John Dramani Mahama delivered a compelling call to action, urging farmers and stakeholders to scale up local food production. Highlighting Ghana’s $3 billion annual food import bill, he reinforced the urgency of strengthening domestic agriculture with a simple but powerful message: “Grow what we eat and eat what we grow.” His words resonated strongly with farmers, agripreneurs, industry players, and young people increasingly finding purpose and opportunity in agribusiness.

One of the most inspiring moments of the celebration was the recognition of an extraordinary farming journey. Opanin Abraham Kwaku Adusei, an 82-year-old farmer from Sanso in the Eastern Region, was crowned Ghana’s Overall National Best Farmer. His decades of commitment to farming earned him a reward package valued at GH¢1.2 million, including a brand-new tractor with implements, agro-inputs, and additional equipment. His story stands as living proof that passion, discipline, and consistency know no age limits, and that agriculture truly rewards perseverance.

Beyond the awards and recognition, the 41st National Farmers’ Day reflected a renewed national commitment to transforming agriculture. Government assurances to expand local production, improve access to modern farming tools, and position agriculture as a viable and profitable path for the next generation signalled a clear direction for the future of the sector.

We commend the Government of Ghana, the Ministry of Food and Agriculture, traditional leaders, development partners, exhibitors, vendors, farmer associations, and all agricultural enthusiasts whose presence and participation made this year’s celebration impactful and memorable. Your collective effort continues to shape a stronger, more resilient agricultural ecosystem.

As we reflect on the event, one truth remains clear:
Agriculture rewards those who commit to doing it well.

To every farmer pushing boundaries, every innovator building solutions, and every young person choosing agriculture as a pathway to impact — keep pushing, keep believing, and keep growing.
