On June 21st, 2025, the atmosphere at Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST)-Agric Faculty, was charged with energy, curiosity, and bold ideas as Farming in Africa (FIA), in partnership with GIZ Ghana, brought its revolutionary campaign — “Changing the Narrative of Livestock Farming” — straight to the students.
This was more than just a campus session. It was a moment of transformation, a call to reimagine agriculture, and a powerful reminder that the future of livestock farming in Africa is not only bright but brimming with purpose.
A Day of Purposeful Engagement
The event was expertly led by Prince Sakyi Oppong, MSc, MSc, TQM, Head of Operations at FIAKare, whose passion for systems and training shone through every word. The session was skillfully moderated by Nadia Oppong, Head of Communications at FIA, who connected deeply with students, guiding the dialogue with insight and heart.
But the defining moment came when Fredrick Benneh Frimpong, CEO and Founder of Farming in Africa, stepped forward to share his journey.
From humble beginnings to pioneering one of the most dynamic agricultural platforms in Africa, Fredrick’s story of resilience, vision, and audacity resonated powerfully with the student audience. His message was simple yet profound: your background does not define your limit — your commitment does.
From Social Media to The Grounds: Taking the Revolution Offline
The campaign is part of a larger mission by FIA and GIZ Ghana to bridge the gap between knowledge and practice, taking the conversation beyond screens and into real-world engagements with the next generation of agricultural leaders.
The session tackled a fundamental issue head-on: Why does livestock farming often seem unattractive to young people?
Through honest discussions, hands-on perspectives, and the presence of highly educated professionals thriving in the sector, students saw a new image of agriculture. They were exposed to a world of untapped potential — one where agribusiness, animal husbandry, and livestock entrepreneurship are not backup plans, but deliberate, profitable career choices.
Sowing Seeds of Change Across Campuses
For FIA, this isn’t a one-time event. It’s part of a growing movement to change mindsets, equip future leaders, and build a thriving agricultural economy driven by youth engagement.
At the heart of it all is a belief: that agriculture is not a dead end, but a dignified, dynamic path to success and impact.
And the results speak for themselves — inspired faces, questions that signal critical thinking, and students walking away seeing a future in agriculture they never imagined before.
A Heartfelt Thank You
To our remarkable partners at GIZ Ghana, thank you for your unwavering support and vision. And to the vibrant, curious students of KNUST, thank you for your openness, your passion, and for being part of this transformative journey.
