ABOUT US

Farming in Africa (FIA) is a company that is on a passionate mission to revolutionize Agriculture, especially the Livestock Industry in Africa, through innovative technologies, solutions, and practical training for farmers

As a company that owns and manages its own livestock farms, we seek to transform livestock farming in Africa from small scale to large and commercial scale industries by providing innovative and sustainable solutions that cover every area of livestock farming. We engage with over 1000 unique farmers all over Africa on a daily basis through our robust online community, created to offer detailed assistance to farmers. In our quest to revolutionize livestock farming in Africa as a company, we focus on the following:

# Our Story

2018

Farming in Africa started with a cattle farm in 2018 in Berekum Senase, in the Bono Region of Ghana.

The goal was to provide enough protein for the students to feed at the Semanhyia American School at Berekum Senase.

Evolving swiftly, we diversified into poultry farming, managing over 10,000 birds with precision.

2020

In 2020, the ‘Farming In Africa’ YouTube channel was created to document our farming journey and to share information to other farmers as there was a noticeable lack of accessible agricultural knowledge, especially in livestock agribusiness. Today, the channel has over 80,000 subscribers, forming a supportive community eager to learn and share experiences, fostering agribusiness growth across Africa and beyond.

The interest in animal rearing evolved into goat farming after the COVID pandemic which saw the prices of feed for poultry skyrocket making the venture almost unsustainable.

2022

Since 2022, we have successfully managed a goat farm of over 250 goats on our farm, which we converted into a Research, Learning, and Development Farm. It became popularly known as the Semanhyia L&D Farm.

We have students and other agricultural stakeholders who visit to gain practical knowledge on livestock farming.

Our vision to revolutionize livestock farming in Ghana, and especially West Africa by improving the breeds of goats has led us to introduce quality breeds of goats into West Africa.  We can now distribute these goats to various countries in West Africa. The goal is to be able to breed these exotic goats here in West Africa to improve our lightweight local West African dwarf goats and the Sahalian goats.

2024

In 2024, a huge setback we encountered in Berekum Senase (SEMANHYIA FARMS IS NO MORE!!!) led us to establish a new Learning and development model farm in Suhum in the eastern region of Ghana.

This new farm has rapidly become a beacon of undying hope and resilience in the face of the circumstances that caused its establishment.

The Semanhyia L&D Farm in Suhum has embarked on projects such as Artificial insemination and other innovations that would greatly enhance the genetic breeds of livestock we have in West Africa. We have also expanded our operations and services to include replicating our model across all the 16 regions of Ghana, to practically demonstrate how to do livestock agribusiness right by focusing on what we term the ‘Five Fundamental Pillars of Livestock agribusiness’ which are:

With our reputation as an authentic source of exotic breeds of goats in West Africa, we continually offer free livestock farming education on all our social media platforms, especially on our YouTube channel, Farming In Africa.
